Research shows:
Walking 9,000–10,000 steps a day reduces the risk of heart attacks by 21%, cancer by 16%, and death by 39% over seven years compared to walking only 2,000–5,000 steps a day.
Advice:
For visitors to Tokyo: walk around the Imperial Palace from a nearby train/subway station (about 6.5 km or 9000 steps).
For visitors to Kyoto: walk along the west bank of Kamo river from Nijo Bridge to Nishigamo Bridge (about 6.5 km or 9000 steps).
For visitors to Fukuoka: walk the Ohori Park loop, then go to the observation deck at the Fukuoka Castle Ruins in Maizuru Park and back, and next walk the path crossing the pond in Ohori Park and back (about 6.5 km or 9000 steps).
